Tauran, Cardinal Jean-Louis

What Purpose Does Pontifical Diplomacy Serve? - 2006.

To answer this question, we must examine the history and legal structure of the Catholic Church because these are the realities international law takes into consideration and that allow us to understand why the Roman Catholic Church is the only religious denomination with access to diplomatic relations. The Holy See interprets the social doctrine of the Catholic Church at the international level in order to make it available to national governments. The Holy See’s sole ambition is to provide this spiritual service in order to convince the rulers of our societies that violence, fear, repression, evil, and death must not be allowed to be victorious.
