N2  - The purpose of this paper is to show that the process of transferring family businesses is part of a process-based, dynamic, and paradoxical approach. We discuss the importance of paradoxical tensions in order to analyze the transmission of family businesses. Specifically, we explore opportunities to skillfully manage the paradoxical tensions that may exist in certain strategic contexts. The paper concludes by proposing actions aiming to improve the transmission of family businesses
