N2  - ‪On 1st March 1925, 80,000 men gathered in Nantes (Loire-Inférieure) at the call of their bishop, Eugène Le Fer de la Motte, a fighting prelate. This unprecedented mass demonstration was an example of a somewhat forgotten Catholic mobilisation to protest against the secular plans of the Cartel of the Left (1924-1926), which brought together radicals and socialists. This revival of Catholicism was to affect the West notably, and especially the territory of the military Vendée. This last, bordering the capital of the dukes, corresponds to the insurgent zone in 1793, a “memory region”. The period saw the invention of the mass Catholic demonstration orchestrated by General de Castelnau’s Fédération nationale catholique (FNC), with the active support of the French Catholic hierarchy. During the Cartel period, Catholics took centre stage, taking over the provincial urban space in large numbers, as well as their places of remembrance. These events are the subject of near-amnesia, including on the part of French Catholics, but they mean that the occupation of the streets by Catholics did not begin in 1984 and even less so in 2012-2013 or 2019, contrary to what has been said and written.‪; Le 1er mars 1925, 80 000 hommes se rassemblent à Nantes (Loire-Inférieure) à l’appel de leur évêque, Eugène Le Fer de la Motte, un prélat de combat. Cette manifestation de masse sans précédent est exemplaire d’une mobilisation catholique visant à protester contre les projets laïques du Cartel des gauches (1924-1926), réunissant radicaux et socialistes. Ce réveil des catholiques va concerner notamment l’Ouest et en particulier le territoire de la Vendée militaire. Celui-ci, limitrophe de la capitale des ducs, correspond à la zone insurgée en 1793, une « région-mémoire ». La période voit l’invention de la manifestation catholique de masse orchestrée par la Fédération nationale catholique (FNC) du général de Castelnau, soutenue activement par la hiérarchie catholique française. Durant la période du Cartel, les catholiques tiennent le devant de la scène en investissant en nombre l’espace urbain provincial comme leurs lieux de mémoire. Ces événements sont l’objet d’une quasi-amnésie, y compris de la part des catholiques français, mais ils signifient que l’occupation de la rue par ceux-ci n’a pas débuté en 1984 et encore moins en 2012-2013 ni en 2019, contrairement à ce qui a pu être dit et écrit
