<br/><br/> Among the foreign authors who influenced Brazilian symbolism, three Belgians stand out: Maeterlinck, Rodenbach and Verhaeren. This article attempts to pinpoint the reason of their popularity in Brazil; it is principally based on critical texts. It also considers some elements of the image Brazilian authors had of Flanders.
