N2  - L’article proposé met en lumière l’utilisation de la brique au sein des fortifications de la ville de Béthune depuis sa première mention en 1337 jusqu’à son utilisation industrielle au cours du xixe s. Après avoir présenté le contexte d’étude centré sur une section de courtine située au sud de l’enceinte, le regard se porte sur les résultats des analyses métrologiques visant à appuyer le phasage chronologique du site. L’identification de plusieurs facteurs discriminants, notamment des dimensions de la brique en panneresse, apporte des éléments concrets sur l’importance grandissante de la brique au sein des élévations militaires. De plus, l’analyse menée établit de premiers éléments de réponse sur les variations du module de brique au cours du temps. En dernier lieu, la mise en commun de la documentation historique et archéologique permet de synthétiser les résultats à l’échelle de l’enceinte de Béthune; This article sheds light on the use of brick in the fortifications of the city of Béthune, from its first mention in 1337 to its industrial use in the 19th century. After presenting the context of the study, centred on a section of curtain wall to the south of the enclosure, we turn our attention to the results of metrological analyses designed to support the chronological phasing of the site. The identification of discriminating factors, in particular the dimensions of the brick in the curtain wall, provides concrete evidence of the growing importance of brick in military elevations. In addition, the analysis provides some initial clues as to the variations in brick modules over time. Finally, by pooling historical and archaeological documentation, the results can be summarised for the whole of the Béthune enceinte
