Rites and Rituals in the Psychiatric Institution - 2003.

64

Rituals in psychiatric institutions can be divided into rituals pertaining to care (specific and non-specific) and rituals pertaining to the functioning of the medical team. This paper describes and then discusses some aspects of these rituals: their ability to give rhythm to everyday life by keeping the focus on treatment, their collective aspect, the concept of shared belief, their tendency to gradually lose their initial meaning, and their timelessness.
