The contempt of the body as expressed by Peter Damian can only be correctly understood if it is contextualized within his more general perception of Nature. A careful examination of Peter Damian’s anthropological and soteriological position helps unpack the thesis according to which there exists and inherent connexion between his concept of the world and his eucharistic concept. The importance that Peter Damian lends to divine omnipotence allies itself to a concept of the world that is without substance and a sacrifical interpretation of the Eucharist.
