N2  - Based on several biographies of Freud in English and their periodization, the author criticizes the establishment of broad periods and the transformation of history into hagiography. Drawing on the work of Michel Foucault and a number of other alternative examples of periodization, he proposes a rigorous method based on very short, targeted periods. After evoking the traditional approaches to a Freud text, he takes up the specific example of his writing of Beyond the Pleasure Principle
