N2  - Résumé La recherche récente sur l’histoire du colonialisme montre comment le savoir colonial a servi à la fois de socle à l’édification de l’État colonial et de base identitaire à la revendication nationaliste. À partir de l’analyse d’un cas, celui de l’Angola, où le rôle du savoir dans la stratégie coloniale a été différent, cet article émet l’hypothèse qu’il y a un lien entre la faiblesse du « projet documentaire » de l’État colonial et celle de l’expression politique du nationalisme. Surtout, il met le doigt sur la manière dont l’atrophie de l’État colonial et les phénomènes de « décharge » – notamment au profit des missions chrétiennes – qu’elle implique ont favorisé la multiplicité et le cloisonnement des imaginaires politiques au nom desquels s’est faite la lutte nationaliste; Recent research on the history of colonialism shows how colonial knowledge has served both as the basis for edifying the colonial state and as a foundation for identity in nationalist claims. The article takes as a case study Angola, where the role of knowledge in colonial strategy was different, arguing that there is a link between the weakness of the « documentary project » of the colonial state and the one giving political expression to nationalism. Above all, it focuses on the way in which the colonial state and the phenomena « relief » – particularly in favour of the Christian missions – that it implies have encouraged a multiplicity and compartmentalising of the political imaginaire in whose name the nationalist struggle is carried waged
