N2  - Charles Lacretelle (1766-1855) a un parcours très atypique : journaliste feuillant pendant la Révolution, il se métamorphose en historien pendant l’Empire. mais il n’écrit pas l’histoire de n’importe quelle période. Epouvanté par la fin tragique du roi et de la monarchie, proscrit sous la Terreur, membre de la jeunesse dorée pendant la période thermidorienne, très actif des points de vue politique et journalistique, de septembre 1794 à septembre 1797, emprisonné au lendemain du 18-Fructidor, puis libéré à la veille du 18-Brumaire par un certain Joseph Fouché, il décide de se consacrer à l’écriture de l’histoire de la révolution pendant l’Empire et même à la réécriture de cette même histoire pendant la Restauration; Lacretelle, a Writer Confronted with the French Revolution (1766-1855)Charles Lacretelle (1766-1855) followed a highly atypical course : a Feuillant journalist during the Revolution, he became an historian during the Empire but not in order to write the history of any period. Appalled by the tragic fate of the king and the monarchy, proscribed during the Terror, a member of the “gilded youth” after Thermidor, very active politically and journalistically from September 1794 to September 1797, thrown into gaol after 18 Fructidor, then released prior to 18 Brumaire by a certain Joseph Fouché, he decided to devote his energies to writing the history of the Revolution during the Empire and then to rewriting the same history during the Restoration
