The logic of profit leads capital to pillage nature (which is a determining factor in the current growth-rate) and to resort to planned intervention, mediated by state agencies in terms of legitimation and expertise. It also gives a basis to the « new social movements » which are against it at various levels (local or global environment, women, cultures, comrnunities), and brings them into contact with labour and Third-World struggles
