N2  - Cet article explore la manière dont les Journées mondiales de la jeunesse – grandes fêtes planétaires itinérantes de jeunes catholiques, instituées par Jean-Paul II en 1985 – gagnent en intelligibilité quand elles sont abordées selon les perspectives de la nouvelle histoire diplomatique. Il cherche également à montrer que ce champ de recherche, qui privilégie une définition large de la diplomatie, peut-être en retour enrichi par la prise en compte de l’événement religieux; This article explores how World Youth Days – global and itinerant festivals of young Catholics, instituted by John Paul II in 1985 – gain in intelligibility when approached from the perspectives of the new diplomatic history. It also seeks to show that this field of research, which favors a broad definition of diplomacy, can in return be enriched by taking into account religious mega events
