<br/><br/> La côte Est américaine au xixe siècle redéfinit l’art national américain. Au centre de cette réflexion, on retrouve l’artiste John F. Kensett (1816-1872). Figure issue des milieux esthétiques et politiques de la côte Est américaine, son travail fut fondamental dans l’élaboration des bases pour l’épanouissement d’un art national américain. Kensett joua de ses relations au sein des nombreux clubs et sociétés new-yorkais pour mettre au centre des discussions la formation et le rôle de l’artiste, et l’élaboration d’un musée national.  During the 19th century, Americans of the East Coast have questioned the notion of national art. One of the main actors of this introspection is the artist John F. Kensett (1816-1872). A central figure in the aesthetic and political milieu of the American East Coast, his work was central in shaping the foundations for an American national art. Kensett used his relationships with many New York clubs and societies to focus on the formation and role of the artist and the development of a national museum.
