<br/><br/> The article presents the main results of a survey conducted in France among people sentenced to probation. Starting from the observation of the complexity of the meaning of sentences, the investigation seeks to grasp the specific form of the experience lived by probationers. This is experienced as discordant and, if it works despite everything, it induces a penal reconfiguration of existence and a punitive overload. The probationers then put to the test a very paradoxical situation and without common measure, the meaning of which remains indexed to the imperative to get out of it.
