Parents of Adolescents: From the Parental to the Conjugal - 2012.

51

The difficulties encountered by an adolescent, in a simultaneous process of masking and revelation, often appear to be the symptom of a problem existing in the parental couple. Through three clinical cases of families with different modes of organisation and preoccupations, the present article shows how the adolescent’s pathology can be removed once the parents relinquish their own worries as to their offspring to again focus on their own issues as a couple. Marital therapy then allows the adolescent to find or recover a space for themselves that he or she can invest in accordance with their own specific issues.
