Standards and Measures in Hellenistic Delos: Evolutions and Discontinuities
- 2014.
67
This study focuses on the analysis of Delian evidence, which sheds light on significant metrological changes. Through the examination of measure denominations in the epigraphic sources (inscriptions from the accounts of the hieropoioi, and IG II2 1013), as well as through information from numismatic sources and from the analysis of a group of sekomata, several metrological evolutions can be detected, from the archaic period to the first century BC. They reflect sequential dominations of the major powers on the island of Delos. They also show how representative Delian sources are for a study of economic phenomena in the Eastern Mediterranean.
