In this paper we discuss the idea of a more or less thin minimal morality, which could be adopted within the framework of a liberal approach to political thought and action. Drawing on the recognition of certain platitudes and intuitions concerning morality, we try to isolate a core of concepts and principles, reflecting some basic deontological and consequentialist considerations. We lay emphasis on conceptions of justice, autonomy and negative duties. , we focus on the issue of their strength and scope, which could be determined by assessing the authority of moral reasons and, more particularly, their pervasiveness, overridingness and stringency.
