This interview looks back at the history of left-wing oppositions in the USSR (notably Trotskyists, but not only) and the current evolution of post-Soviet Russia. It criticizes approaches that consider the USSR as “State capitalism” and analyses the transformations at work in contemporary Russia, particularly in terms of property relations. The nomenklatura plays a contradictory role, insisting on maintaining state control while at the same time driving a wave of privatisations under international pressure.
