N2  - Discovered in 1945 on the Agora in Thasos, the signature of an Athenian sculptor, Praxias, son of Praxias, was immediately related to the text of Pausanias, where the creation of the pediments of the last temple of Apollo at Delphi is attributed to a certain Praxias, without mentioning his affiliation. However, this sculptor had been previously identified with another Praxias, son of Lysimachos, well attested by two signatures in Athens and Oropos, and the hypothesis was not convincing. Nevertheless, in 2005 a study associating a series of atticising sculptures in Thasos to Praxias’ son, revived the hypothesis, although the temple of Apollo sculpture, published two years earlier in the series Fouilles de Delphes, was providing strong evidence to support the traditional thesis. As a publication reasserted in 2010 the hypothesis of 1948, only a systematic survey of the documents can end these speculations about what is essentially a fairly simple point
