This article stems from the observation that, as they circulate, some musical and choreographic practices of the Pacific are redefined as “heritage”. The article aims to understand the factors explaining this re-characterisation according to the contexts in which it intervenes. The article also examines what these heritage-making processes can tell us about the dynamics of social belonging produced by migration, and about the status of migrants in the countries where they settle.
