This article examines the patrimonialization of the tombs of Muslim saints in Xinjiang, describing the different tensions, accommodations and negotiations resulting from such practice. This process reveals a complex scene in which the sense of identity associated with preservation is variously deployed by diverse categories of actors. The confrontation of these multilayered discourses thus allows us to understand how the belonging to Xinjiang can be manifested today through the alternative methods of enunciating and practicing heritage.
