Patient’s autonomy: From caring proposal to harmful ideology? - 2019.

The author questions the appropriateness, in various circumstances, of injunctions to caregivers not to get attached to their patients. Based on the philosophical aspect of the concept of autonomy—which is used as a dogma, rather than a means for caregivers and sometimes totally dependent patients—and clinical experience with polyhandicapped institutionalized patients, the author connects what she calls “the ideology of autonomy” with phobias, as understood in the psychoanalytic literature.
