Psychoanalytical Consultation of a Couple and Use of the Genogram

<br/><br/> Working on the basis of clinical material derived from psychoanalytical consultation of a couple (here characterised by a perverse mode of operation) conducted in co-therapy in private practice, the present article describes the work deployed to analyse the choice of partner and, more generally, the specific unconscious alliance within the bond uniting that couple. Through analysis of the genogram, used as a diagnostic instrument and as a mediating object, the history of each of the two families of origin is reviewed and thus the inter- and trans-generational components of the couple’s psychic apparatus are elaborated. Special attention is devoted to the transference-countertransference and intertransference dynamic. The analytical work would appear to have enabled a first perception of its psychological operation to have been grasped by the couple as also the working through of a scheme to represent the most repetitive elements.
