Transforming violence from father to son - 2020.

82

It is shown how the adult can experience the non-elaboration of the process of adolescence, above all when they become a parent and their child in turn reaches adolescence. From notes taken just after each session in a health care environment, the author here recounts the typical cure of a man in his forties, whose son’s adolescence awakens traumas related to his relationship with his own violent father, hitherto repressed. The cure allows for a transformation of the traumas and a resumption of the oedipal conflict, fostering a change that can be summarised by a relaxation of the paternal imago, with a more secure fatherhood and more consistent father-son ties.
