N2  - A family is an organization dependent on the arrow of time, a complex temporality that combines individual and group rhythms. Time – closely linked to history, memory and the notion of place – is also what is at stake when more or less symptomatological manifestations become chronic and emerge within the family circle. In this article, the author raises the question of the function of insomnia in the adolescent process. Based on a clinical case, he describes insomnia as a complex with various objects, especially that of summoning the parents to partake in the conflicts necessary for the process of subjectivation and individuation. This power to enlist is seen to underpin the development of both the adolescent and the family
