Intervening as a doctor in the domain of child protection requires one to familiarise oneself with the legal framework within which this complex departmental mission takes place. The preventive dimension exists in daily medical practice. But can we also speak of prevention in child protection? One makes a diagnosis when faced with worrying information. One decides on a treatment when measures of educational assistance have been put in place. At what point is it preventive action? How does a medical point of view participate in this mission where the fundamental needs of the child must be taken into account?
