What remains when the crux of one’s existence disappears? How does the loss of the subject of our love trigger pathological reconstructions in old age? In a time when depression diagnosis covers a broad spectrum, from mourning and sadness to the sufferings of burnout, how can we restore melancholy to its rightful place? Through the case study of Aimée, we will see how melancholic delusion is a possible way to rebuild what cannot cognitively be processed because it is psychically unsurpassable.
