Abandoning one’s profession, leaving school: what feminine professional career changes express about teachers’ work - 2019.

The study of teachers changing career and even abandoning the school teaching profession is an opportunity to question teaching conditions, to observe teacher experiences and the reasons which led them to leave their jobs. Their projects, via biographical information, serve as a privileged gateway to assess the identity reorganisations in place. For those who were questioned, returning to higher education is a heavy investment – they were predominantly women and full-time employees, who already have a career, with a family mostly made up of young children. The meaning of these paths in terms of gender is interesting in that it sheds light on the work of teachers and the difficulties of the profession.
