Neighborhood discomfort. What is the insecurity feeling the symptom of?

<br/><br/> How are everyday situations considered, from the original point of view of inhabitants who experience the feeling of insecurity? Based on the results of a survey made in Montreynaud, a neighborhood in the city of Saint-Etienne, the paper presents three profiles of anxious inhabitants ( i.e. inhabitants experiencing anxiety linked to insecurity): home owners who feel “trapped”, renters who are infuriated by incivilities, and women who are worried for their children. Those worries correspond to three expressions of a more general discomfort, and the paper also shows that this discomfort, which is objectified into resentment, the ethnicisation of relationships between social groups or into worrying about the family’s future, is also linked to a feeling of abandonment.
