The fundamental rule: a drilling tool towards the real

In setting up the fundamental rule during the course of the cure, Freud institutes contingency at the basis of his principle. Whereas it necessarily conditions the lifting of unconscious determinations that unknowingly govern the subject, the rule keeps its edge in setting contingence towards what is beyond, that is to say, on the side of the real, of an open, that is not the unlimited of the digital world. It is an open that is holed, that requires making do with the symptom and the “no sexual” relation. The fundamental rule places the cure under the principle of an encounter with contingency, opening subsequently to the unprecedented, that pertains to the invention of the subject and not to the necessary.Abstract translated by Mary McLoughlin
