- 2009.

This paper, based on an analysis of Swinburne’s “Cyril Tourneur,” assesses the poet’s use of imitative harmony, and discusses his mimetic attempt to bridge the gap between language and the real. It also shows how the poem builds up an unlikely image of the world so as to take the reader back to the powerful mystery of the signifier’s density. This point will lead on to an interpretation of the sonnet’s title.
