N2  - RésuméCet article avance la thèse selon laquelle l’idée acquise d’un clivage entre le mode conventionnel et le mode expérimental, qui tous deux ont caractérisé la poésie américaine depuis un demi-siècle, n’est plus pertinente aujourd’hui. S’y est substitué un champ beaucoup plus ouvert, où les poètes mélangent souvent des approches et des techniques puisées dans les deux répertoires. L’article revient ici brièvement sur l’évolution de ce modèle binaire depuis 1960, pour suggérer ensuite que son effondrement tient essentiellement à deux facteurs : les changements à l’université, y compris dans les programmes et, d’autre part, les bouleversements que l’innovation technologique a induits dans la publication; In this article, I argue that the long-standing binary opposition between conventional and experimental modes, which has characterized American poetry for the past fifty years, is no longer accurate, but has been replaced by a much more open field in which poets frequently blend approaches and techniques from both the experimental and conventional repertoires. I briefly review the evolution of the binary model since 1960, and then propose that its breakdown is principally due to two factors: changes in the universities, including curricula, and changes in publishing brought about by technological innovations
