In his work Plural World, sociologist Bernard Lahire argues convincingly and originally for the theoretical unity of the humanities and the social sciences, offering, to this end, his own theory of practice: “dispositions + context = practices.” As this critical note demonstrates, such a theory not only rests upon a profoundly dichotomous reasoning, but it also raises a number of difficulties with respect to the requisites of field theory and psychoanalysis.
