<br/><br/> This paper explores how Vichy propaganda networks attempted to galvanize Anglophobia at the time of the Madagascar Affair of 1942. It analyzes both the nature of the Vichy propaganda and the reaction it received using research in departmental and national archives. It sheds light on shifts and ambiguities in public opinion, on the centrality of the empire for Vichy, on censorship and control, and on opposition activities during the dark years.
