N2  - Historiography of the French press at the time of the German occupation clings to the notion that Le Figaro, having withdrawn to the Free Zone, struggled against censorship and harboured a literary supplement strongly opposed to the morality in vogue. Such an approach appears to us to be seriously incomplete, insofar as it neglects the editorial line of Pierre Brisson’s newspaper which holds, on the one hand, to the utopia promised by the Révolution Nationale to conservatives nostalgic for Poincarism, and on the other hand to unwavering faith in the revanchist continuity of Marshal Pétain
