All along the 20th century, the auxiliary forces brought an essential contribution to the army in Indochina. Mainly recruited among ethnic and religious minorities, they took part in all the actions on the field, like the preservation of order and later, they engaged in the counter-revolutionary war. Thanks to their involvement, the French Army was supplied with men, perfectly adapted to the Indochinese environment, and above all, did not have to send costly recruits from France. For all these reasons, the auxiliary forces were a key element in the pacification of Vietnam from 1902 to 1954.
