In some anthropocentric practices in animal mediation (animal-assisted intervention), the non-human animal is still considered a “tool at the service of Man” rather than a partner in the intervention. This instrumentalization puts them at risk of abuse and possibly limits the scope of the intervention. The recognition of the agency of the non-human animal therefore seems necessary in order to release its true potential and thus access the richness of animal mediation. With the help of clinical illustrations, the author presents the Humanimal Model of Practice in Animal Mediation - Animal-Assited Intervention that she has developed, a model that embraces this paradigm shift.
