N1 - 27 N2 - The Covid-19 global pandemic has impacted several vulnerable populations, including older people. In fact, many Covid-19 victims were identified, among others, in the residential care centers EHPAD (France) or CHSLD (Quebec). Although the virus kills mostly older people, it has also drawn attention to contemporary representations of death. In this article, we revisited the book The Loneliness of the Dying by Norbert Elias to explore different social transformations operating during the COVID-19 period. Specifically, the person’s longevity, the progress of medical science, the pacification of Western societies, and finally the significant growth of the individualization phenomenon have all been strongly shaken by the global crisis.
