Canada generated two opposite tendencies in the practice and study of communications. In Toronto, Marshall McLuhan’s structuralist and determinist theory was based on technology viewed as an organizational communication between individuals. In Montreal, however, Social Communication was like a living media laboratory, which arose from the 60s Quiet Revolution and organized itself around the “Videograph” of Montreal.
