TY - BOOK AU - Wolton,Dominique TI - General Conclusion: From Diversity to Cultural Cohabitation PY - 2008///. N1 - 70 N2 - Globalization which was supposed to open the World is leading to an opposite challenge: managing cultural identities and diversity. It is a question of creating a new globalization melting a universal humanism with a respect for the diversity of identities. Now, it appears that the traditional political frame is the ablest system for respecting this cultural diversity. It must be preserved in order to sustain not only social welfare but also our numerous cultural heritages. If European powers underestimate identity issues and don’t take care of cultural diversity, it might well lead to the worst ethnic prejudices as it was the case in Bosnia and elsewhere. The cultural identity of all the migrant populations must also be taken into account, and their contribution must be highlighted and not ignored. Besides, in order to enhance cultural cohabitation, one must promote a “tolerant secularism” in which political management would be totally autonomous from religious beliefs. In any case, respecting cultural diversity requires to restore the prestige and the independence of the political sphere UR - https://shs.cairn.info/journal-hermes-la-revue-2008-2-page-195?lang=en&redirect-ssocas=7080 ER -
