N2  - It is rare to come across accounts covering more than ten years (1750–1761) of the activities of a wool-producing livestock association. The accounts of Guillaume Nicolai  are drawn from his daybook, which also contains other business accounts and information about his family. Nicolai was an educated and wealthy member of the provincial nobility, with access to the Court. These accounts are concerned with the winter and summer pasturing of large flocks. They reveal the financial return from this form of cattle-rearing in the mid-18th century
