Many people only discovered global jihadism through the attacks of September the 11th in the United States or the declaration of the Caliphate in the summer of 2014. These were brief “flashes” of notoriety. However, the jihad movement dates back half a century. It was born from a defeat, and its history is marked by defeats and rarely by victories. At the heart of this movement, a culture, a literature and a propaganda are developed at the service of a narrative that transforms defeats into victories, initially for the individual and then for the entire group on the “paths of Allah”.
