Confinement was described as early as 1953 by Gayral as transnosological behavior linked to a specific state of society. Today we see a variety of such cases. Using written testimonies, the author synthesizes recurrent elements found in French social recluses, concerning their view of themselves and of others, the role of the Internet, and family issues. Among the psychopathological elements presented here clinicians may also identify psychopathological elements that are almost always present, including the fact that confinement appears regularly as a figure of projection in adult clinical presentation. The article closes with a discussion of the model of therapeutic intervention for drawing the patient out of their confinement: Go to visit them in their home, or have them come to us? Reach out the hand of reintegration into the human world, as much to the family, who may be met with alone for a number of consultations, as to the young person, following the model of the psychiatry of catastrophe?
