This article presents clinical “snapshots” taken during an ordinary day of a psychoanalyst; “vignettes” which, from one session to another, highlight the question (even the omnipresence) of the father and the different types of paternal function in our materials and elaborative work. The juxtaposition and development of these sessions testify as much to the essential nature of this issue as to its kaleidoscopic aspect, and therefore call for further consideration and investigation of this paternal function in theory as well as in transference and interpretative work. This clinical patchwork concludes with a few avenues for future development.
