<br/><br/> Due to various reasons, a sociological description of the men called up is still not available 90 years after the end of the conflict. After demonstrating how unreliable and meagre the existing data are —not to mention the memorial issues at stake—, the author presents the few scientifically-based studies that open up avenues to be explored by researchers wishing to contribute to clarifying this question.
