At a time when antimicrobial resistance has become a major challenge for humanity—as Ban Ki-moon recalled during his inaugural United Nations General Assembly speech as secretary-general of the UN in 2016—we have increasingly in-depth knowledge of the mechanisms responsible for it. Causes other than the improper use of human medicine have been identified. These causes raise ethical issues and call for reflection within the context of “One Health.” Indeed, it has now been clearly established that the two main anomalies (dysfunctions) in the field of antibiotics are misuse in the agro-food industry and their method of production, which is a factor in the development and dissemination of bacterial resistance.
