N2  - The aim of this paper is to study the vulnerability of the New Caledonian economy based on an analysis of genuine savings. The calculation of genuine savings shows that at first glance, the New Caledonian economy shows no signs of vulnerability over the period 1970–2007. However, the analysis of its trajectory reveals threshold effects in the nickel sector, suggesting that New Caledonia's development trajectory may not be sustainable
