Tourism in French Overseas Territories in the Face of Carbon Constraints
- 2012.
95
In the context of the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, tourism toward distant destinations, including French Overseas Territories, appears questionable. This paper assesses the emissions, identifies the actions aimed at reducing them, and combines these with scenarios up to 2025 for a set of destinations: Guadeloupe, R?union, French Polynesia, and New Caledonia. This carbon constraint could be introduced in the future by development agencies as a criterion together with biodiversity and poverty alleviation, thus contributing to the decision over whether or not support tourism development.
