<br/><br/> Based on the narration of singular events that arose during field research on pastoral hydraulics in Chad, and on a more general argumentation on the project interventions in Africa, the present article studies the engagement and instrumentalization of research in social sciences through the public aid system. It sets out to reflect on the conditions that are indispensable to scientific production in the area of development, taking account of the procedures and characteristics of the current aid system.
