Ecuador, a new political thinking. Development as a political process - 2019.

70

This text proposes an analysis of the economic development policy implemented by Ecuador between 2007 and 2016. Rafael Correa, former President of Ecuador and professor of economics, draws up a detailed review of the economic and social developments of the period, as an engaged, activist player in the period. By explaining the results obtained in terms of the fight against poverty and investments in the future (infrastructure and education, in particular), he takes this opportunity to draw some conclusions as to how development should be pursued in the Global South. The paper then discusses the importance of political choice, of the support of the majority of the population, as well as of the struggles necessary to escape the application of the “unjust” ideas related to the Washington Consensus.
